Membership Changes Are Here

posted in: News 0

As part of the visioning process that began in 2024 as we prepared for our 75th Anniversary celebration, the Society’s Executive Committee, Membership Committee, Finance Committee, and Office have assessed membership dues collected and which aspects of our operations they cover. We have attempted to avoid raising dues for as long as possible, but we have determined that it is time to increase our membership rates.

Below you will find more information.

How much more will I pay as a member?

The new annual membership rates will be

  • $15 for Student Membership
  • $60 for Regular Membership
  • $100 for Sustaining Membership
  • $250 for Donor Membership
  • $500 for Benefactor Membership
  • $1,000 for Patron Membership

How will the benefits of membership change?

Moving forward, only members at the Donor, Benefactor, and Patron levels will be able to give a gift membership as part of their membership benefits.

All members are still able, and encouraged, to purchase an annual membership as a gift. All other benefits at every level of membership will remain the same.

All members will still receive a discount on books in the Society’s online shop. This will be accessed through coupon codes sent with membership renewal rather than tiered pricing on the site.

When will membership renewal season occur?

Membership renewals will take place each spring, resulting in a simplified annual rhythm of publications, programming, and membership renewal.

  • Fall: Enjoy our Fall program and new issues of Swedish American Studies and Glimtar and consider planning your giving for our Year End Appeal.
  • Winter: Read our publications and give to our Year End Appeal
  • Spring: Renew your membership for the upcoming season and attend our Spring program.
  • Summer: Take your early summer Glimtar issue to the beach, forest, or lake! Get ready for next season’s exciting adventures and think about whether you’d like to join our Board of Directors.

Why are membership prices changing?

Our goal is to offer the most affordable membership dues possible while ensuring the ongoing mission of the Society. To cover publication costs and secure the sustainability of our common work, we must raise our rates at this time.
